It gives me a good feeling to revisit such a positive, personal, universal poem. Though it was written more than eight years ago and I am indisputably that much older, I still feel, in contemplating the thoughts and images called forth, that a beautiful harvest is in. And I still feel gratitude, and call it a blessing and a symphony. Whatever your age, if you have yet to explore the link between gratitude and your own health and well being, now is the time. It will cost you nothing, except, perhaps, that troublesome self-image to which you cling, and which takes so much of your precious energy to maintain. Or, if that seems frightening or silly, go ahead and cling a little longer. Shake your head at these words, laugh at them, call them sappy, and smile patronizingly at the foolish old dreamer who wrote them. I’ll laugh and smile right along with you. It will do all of us good.
