A Penny Postcard

Shall we examine our illnesses, and give them truer, more meaningful names,

such as The North Wind, The Reminder, and The Teacher?

Then we might say, I am visited by The North Wind,

or, I am thankful for The Reminder.

We might say, I learned great things from The Teacher.

I have The Mystery. I do not fear The End.

If I don’t go back and read my own writing, and ponder and test the limits of its truth, isn’t it, then, a wasted resource?

And if I don’t share that which, after honest and careful examination, seems, at least in my poor estimate, to hold up under truth’s impartial light, isn’t that an abuse of our friendship, and of my good fortune?
