As I sit here watching the world go by, I remind myself that those who sign up to terrorize their fellow human beings suffer from a lifetime of anger, fear, loneliness, and trauma. In this way they’re like the wealthy, powerful bullies whose unconscionable bidding they do. Their outlook is beyond sad. Isolated as they are, seeking security and a sense of belonging in numbers, they epitomize the tragedy of these chaotic, desperate times. They’re not only dangerous, their violent actions blind them to the very thing we all seek, which is to know love, be at peace, and be valued members of the human family. At the same time, we must look into ourselves. What good is blame if, even in a smaller, seemingly more acceptable degree, we show signs of the same disease, which stems from the belief that we are separate from others — the belief that there even are others? Yes, right is right and wrong is wrong. But do we always know and understand the difference?
